Graduate Marine Engineering

The Graduate Marine Engineering (GME) course is a one-year residential pre-sea training program that prepares graduates to qualify for the Class IV Marine Engineer Officer Certificate of Competency awarded by the Directorate General of Shipping (Government of India). After completing the course and six months of sea service, cadets can embark on a career as Marine Engineers aboard merchant ships worldwide.

This course commences twice a year, in January and July, and is strictly residential.

Admission Process

Entry Requirements

Candidates must meet one of the following educational qualifications:

1. Category (a):

- Full-time BE/B.Tech in engineering streams such as Mechanical and Automation, Mechanical and Electronics, Mechanical and Automobile, etc.

- The term “Mechanical” must be listed first in the degree title, indicating it as the core discipline, with the second subject being an elective.

2. Category (b):

- Full-time BE/B.Tech in Naval Architecture streams, including Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering or Naval Architecture and Ship Building.

- The term “Naval Architecture” must be listed first in the degree title, indicating it as the core discipline, with the second subject being an elective.

3. Category (c):

- Full-time BE/B.Tech in Marine Engineering.

4. Category (d):

- Full-time BE/B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering.

Age Limit: The maximum age for candidates is 28 years at the time of course commencement.

Panel Interview and Online Test

Eligible candidates will be invited to participate in an online interview and an online test.

Medical Examination

- Selected candidates must undergo a comprehensive medical examination conducted by a DGS-approved doctor.

- This examination may also be conducted by the in-house DGS-approved doctor at BSSM.

Pre-Sea Training

The 1-year DGS-approved Graduate Marine Engineering (GME) Training Program is mandatory for candidates aspiring to become Marine Engineers in the merchant navy.
