Electro Technical Officers

The Electro-Technical Officers (ETO) course is a four-month, fully residential program approved by the Directorate General of Shipping (Government of India). The course is designed to equip candidates with the skills and qualifications required to join the merchant navy as Electro-Technical Officers. The program commences every alternate month.

Admission Process

Entry Requirements

Candidates must meet one of the following educational qualifications:

1. Standard Entry:

- Passed 10+2 with Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, and English as separate subjects, achieving a minimum of 50% in English in either the 10th or 12th standard.

- Completed a three-year diploma with a minimum of 60% marks.

2. Degree Entry:

Passed a four-year degree program, including lateral entry, with at least 50% marks in one of the following disciplines:

- Electrical Engineering

- Electronics Engineering

- Electrical and Electronics Engineering

- Electronics and Telecommunication/Communication Engineering

- Electronics and Instrumentation Engineering, or equivalent

3. Lateral Entry:

- Passed 10th Standard with English as a separate subject and a minimum of 50% in English.

- Completed a diploma with 60% marks and subsequently a three-year degree through lateral entry, with at least 50% marks in the above-mentioned streams.

Age Limit: The maximum age limit is 35 years at the time of course commencement.

Panel Interview

Shortlisted candidates will be invited for the admission process, including an interview.

Medical Examination

- Selected candidates are required to undergo a comprehensive medical examination conducted by a DGS-approved doctor.

- This medical examination can also be completed through the in-house DGS-approved doctor at BSSM.

Pre-Sea Training

The 4-month DGS-approved Electro-Technical Officers (ETO) course prepares candidates for a career in the merchant navy as Electro-Technical Officers.
